Coordinating Conjunctions


This is one of our Weekly Brick units that are designed to provide specific building blocks for German students and teachers to work with for a week. These weekly German units feature a different theme each week and offer various types of exercises for different types of learners.

Coordinating Conjunctions

Coordinating Conjunctions: This powerpoint explains what they are and why we need them. It demonstrates how to connect clauses with conjunctions and how the coordinating elements impact (or rather do NOT impact) the word order in the individual clauses. The following visual shows the five common German coordinating conjunctions in a sample sentence with the position of the subjects and conjugated verbs highlighted to show that the conjunctions are not affecting the word order. This could be used in class even with early beginners.
